Taipei, Feb. 28 (CNA) Taiwan on Sunday recorded one new imported case of COVID-19 from Poland, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 955, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said.

The patient is a Taiwanese man in his 20s who went to study in Poland in September last year and returned to Taiwan on Jan. 28, CECC spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) said at a press briefing in Taipei.

The man had proof of a negative COVID-19 test result issued within three days of his flight, as is required for everyone arriving in Taiwan, Chuang said.

The man stayed at a relative's house by himself during quarantine and returned home on Feb. 12. As he was preparing to travel back to Poland, he got tested for COVID-19 at a hospital on Feb. 26 and the results came back positive, said Chuang.

When he was tested again the next day, his test result was negative. He also had IgG antibodies but no IgM antibodies, which indicates he was likely infected a long time ago in Poland, Chuang said.

The man has not had symptoms of the disease so far, and two of his family members are now under home quarantine, one of whom has tested negative for COVID-19 and its antibodies, Chuang said.

To date, Taiwan has recorded 955 cases of COVID-19, 839 of which have been classified as imported. Of the total, 919 patients have recovered, nine have died, and 27 remain in hospital, CECC data shows.

Globally, COVID-19 has infected over 113.7 million people in 193 countries and regions, with more than 2.5 million fatalities, according to CECC statistics as of Sunday.
