Taipei, Feb. 8 (CNA) Taiwan on Monday reported one new imported case of COVID-19 but no locally transmitted cases, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The new case is that of a Taiwanese woman in her 20s who went to work in the United Kingdom in February last year, the CECC said.

She was diagnosed with COVID-19 in the U.K. after developing symptoms in late December, although she tested negative for the disease twice in January before returning to Taiwan on Jan. 15, the CECC said.

While in quarantine at a government center, as is required of all arrivals from the U.K., the woman was tested twice for the disease, and the results came back negative both times, according to the CECC.

The results of a self-paid COVID-19 test she received at a hospital on Feb. 5, however, came back positive, and one person she was in contact with has been quarantined, the CECC said.

To date, Taiwan has recorded 928 cases of COVID-19, 813 of which have been classified as imported. Of the total, 848 patients have recovered, nine have died, and 71 are in hospital, according to CECC statistics as of Monday.

Globally, COVID-19 has infected over 106 million people in 193 countries and regions, with more than 2.3 million fatalities, CECC data shows.
