Taipei, Feb. 3 (CNA) The reopening of schools in Taiwan at the high school level and below following the winter break will be postponed for four days to Feb. 22 due to the COVID-19 outbreak, Education Minister Pan Wen-chung (潘文忠) said Wednesday.

The delay will give schools enough time to thoroughly clean their campuses and prepare for COVID-19 related measures, Pan said.

With the delayed start, the new semester will end on July 2 and summer vacation will begin on July 3, according to Pan.

The Advanced Subjects Test, which is the latter of two nationwide college entrance exams, will be postponed from July 1-3 to July 3-5, Pan said.

Universities will be allowed to set their own date to start up after the winter break, but it must fall on or after Feb. 22, Pan said.
