Shanghai reported three new domestic COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the total number of infections in the latest local outbreak to nine local confirmed cases. Eight imported cases were reported on Friday, one of whom is a pilot of a cargo plane who flew from the US to Shanghai's Pudong International Airport on Thursday.
Some 73 close contacts of the eight imported cases and 75 close contacts of the three local cases have been quarantined and the venues they visited have been disinfected, the local health commission said in its information release on Saturday morning.
The three new cases were family members and friend of one of the six confirmed cases on Thursday. Two months after the last local case was reported in the city, Shanghai found six local confirmed COVID-19 patients in its most populous downtown district Huangpu on Thursday.
Two of them worked at local hospitals and had not yet received COVID-19 vaccinations.
Shanghai has vaccinated 180,000 medical workers, Shanghai Health Commission said on Friday.
