Taipei, Nov. 28 (CNA) Two more Indonesian manpower agencies were added Saturday to a list of companies banned from sending migrant workers to Taiwan, following recent days of new imported COVID-19 cases from the Southeast Asian country.

With immediate effect, migrant workers from the agencies Pt. Bumenjaya Eka Putra and Pt. Mitra Sinergi Sukses will be prohibited from entering Taiwan, bringing the total number of agencies facing such restrictions to eight, the CECC said.

The CECC's announcement came hours after it confirmed nine new COVID-19 cases, eight of which were recently arrived migrant workers from Indonesia.

The decision was made as several Indonesian migrant workers who were later confirmed as having contracted COVID-19 were found recently to have been sent by Pt. Bumenjaya Eka Putra and Pt. Mitra Sinergi Sukses, the center said.

To date, Taiwan has reported a total of 648 cases of COVID-19, of which it has classified 556 as imported.

Among the imported cases, the majority have been from the United States, at 107, followed closely by Indonesia at 83, according to CECC data.

Taiwan has since Nov. 20 banned entry to migrant workers from eight Indonesian manpower agencies.

The other six on the list are Pt. Sentosa Karya Aditama, Pt. Vita Melati Indonesia, Pt. Ekoristi Berkarya, Pt. Graha Ayukarsa, Pt. Laatansa Lintas, and Pt. Prima Duta Sejati.
