Taipei, Nov. 12 (CNA) Five Indonesian women who recently traveled to Taiwan to work have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 589, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

The new patients, all aged between 20 and 40, arrived in Taiwan on Oct. 28 and 29 and checked into designated facilities for their mandatory 14-day quarantine, CECC spokesman Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) said at a press briefing on Thursday.

One of the women experienced a light fever between Oct. 29 and Nov. 11, which she self-treated, while the other four women have shown no symptoms to date, Chuang said.

The women were tested for COVID-19 after completing their quarantines on Nov. 10 and 11, and the results came back positive on Thursday, he said.

The CECC said it had asked 91 contacts of the symptomatic patient, including passengers on her flight and on a chartered bus she took, to monitor their health carefully.

No contact tracing will be conducted for the other four women, as they are all asymptomatic and did not have contact with anyone during their quarantine, it added.

To date, Taiwan has recorded 589 COVID-19 cases, of which 497 have been classified as imported.

Of the total, 532 have recovered, seven have died and 50 remain in hospital, according to CECC statistics as of Thursday.
