Taipei, Nov. 9 (CNA) Taiwan recorded one new case of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total number in the country to 578 since the pandemic began at the end of last year, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said.

The new case involved a Ukrainian woman in her 20s who arrived in Taiwan on Nov. 3 via Turkey, said Lo Yi-chun (羅一鈞), deputy chief of the CECC's medical response division, at a press conference in Taipei.

The woman came to Taiwan for work purposes and had a negative test result within the three days before she boarded her flight from Ukraine, Lo said.

During her mandatory 14-day quarantine in Taiwan, she experienced symptoms and was tested on Nov. 6, after she notified local health officials, Lo said.

The results came back positive Monday, and the individual is now hospitalized, according to Lo.

A total of 25 people she had contact with, including those traveling with her and others who sat near her on their flight to Taiwan, have been asked to self-isolate, Lo said.

"The current COVID-19 situation in Europe and Central Asia is still on the rise, and Ukraine is severely affected," Lo said.

From Nov. 4 to Nov. 8, Ukraine reported 49,238 COVID-19 cases or about 10.7 percent of the 460,331 cases reported in the country to date, according to worldometers.info.

To date, Taiwan has recorded 578 cases of COVID-19, with 486 classified as imported. Of the total, 526 have recovered, seven have died, and 45 are in the hospital, according to CECC data. The country has not had a confirmed domestic infection since April 12.
