Taiwanese student tests positive for COVID-19 on return from Czech

Taipei, Nov. 5 (CNA) A Taiwanese woman in her 20s who recently returned from the Czech Republic has tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to 569, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Thursday.
The woman, who suffers from allergic rhinitis, traveled to the Czech Republic to study in mid-September. She developed a fever and an altered sense of smell Oct. 10 but did not seek medical attention there before gaining relief from her symptoms about Oct. 20.
On Nov. 2, the student flew home, transiting through Amsterdam and Bangkok before returning to Taiwan. Upon arrival, she had a runny nose and a phlegmy cough.
While in quarantine, the woman on Nov. 3 reported the symptoms she had in the Czech Republic and was tested for COVID-19. She was confirmed on Thursday as having the disease.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 569 cases of COVID-19, with 477 classified as imported. Of the total, 523 have recovered, seven have died and 39 are in hospitals, according to CECC data.
Globally, COVID-19 had infected over 48.07 million people in 189 countries and regions, with some 1.22 million dying of the disease to date, according to CECC statistics as of Thursday.
