DOD Awards Goldbelt Security, LLC, $125 Million in Support of National COVID-19 Vaccination Strategy
On August 31, 2020, the Department of Defense (DOD), in support of the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS), part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), awarded $125 million to Goldbelt Security, LLC to procure 530 million syringes and needles in support of a potential U.S. COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
This CARES Act-funded effort is part of the ongoing collaboration between HHS and the DOD's Joint Acquisition Task Force (JATF) to supply the SNS with critical medical resources.
This award complements a similar action executed on August 4, 2020, when the DOD awarded a mix of large and small medical product manufacturers and distributors $104 million for the procurement of 500 million syringes and safety needles. Together, these two contracts provide a total of over 1 billion needles and syringes to support a potential U.S. COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
The Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense (JPEO-CBRND) partnered with HHS and the Army Contracting Command – Aberdeen Proving Ground to select and award three individual contracts to Goldbelt Security, LLC, an Alaskan Native 8A company. Goldbelt Security, LLC, will provide the syringes to the SNS over four months, completing delivery by December 31, 2020.
"Our interagency and industry partners have worked in lockstep, offering a critical solution to a formidable challenge," said Doug Bryce, the Executive Officer JPEO-CBRND. "Procuring additional syringes for the national stockpile will better prepare our nation to efficiently administer a safe, effective COVID-19 vaccine authorized by the FDA. The DOD and HHS continue to demonstrate the value of using a whole-of-government approach, streamlining our efforts and bringing us closer to overcoming the COVID-19 threat."
