Taipei, Aug. 22 (CNA) Eighteen non-quarantine hotels in Taipei have been found to be in violation of COVID-19 epidemic prevention rules by accommodating guests under quarantine, the Taipei City government announced Friday, demanding the hotels rectify the problem by Aug. 28.

Taipei currently has 43 quarantine hotels which provide nearly 3,000 rooms, but the city government found out earlier this month that 38 non-quarantine hotels were accommodating some 400 quarantine guests.

By mixing regular guests with quarantine guests who have recently returned from abroad, the hotels raise the risks of spreading the COVID-19 virus, Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲) has pointed out.

While the Ministry of Labor changed the rules on Aug. 5 and banned migrant workers from staying in non-quarantine hotels, there remained migrant workers in 11 of the 18 hotels.

The 18 hotels include one five-star hotel, Regent Hotel, which had received one guest who was due to be free from isolation on Saturday.

Other hotels are: Sunshine Apartment, M.Taipei Hotel, Chez Taipei No. 5, Meander Taipei Hostel, 7 Day Hotel, Dolamanco Hotel, Ximen Hotel, Ximen Citizen Hotel Taipei, Happy Hotel, E-House, Saual Keh Hotel, Check Inn, Rich Zone Hotel, Best Love Boutique Hotel, Silken Hotel, Galaxy Mini Inn, and Relite Hotel.
