Air Force update for COVID-19

WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- In an effort to minimize the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 and to prioritize the health and safety of Department of the Air Force personnel, the following modifications have been made:

Bioenvironmental engineers across the Air Force are working to keep the workplace safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Col. Brian Peake, Air Force Bioenvironmental Engineering associate corps chief, says bioenvironmental engineers are using their experience in exposures and risk mitigation to combat the spread of the disease.

Seventy-two days into the COVID-19 pandemic response mission, New York National Guard Soldiers and Airmen have assisted in administering over a quarter of a million COVID-19 tests, distributed over 11 million meals, and assembled just under a million COVID-19 test kits. As of May 18, the New York National Guard had 3,524 personnel on duty as part of New York's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The most visible mission remains the Soldiers and Airmen working at 15 drive-thru testing sites located across the state. 252,959 New Yorkers have been tested at these sites since the first one opened in Westchester County in March.

Nearly 60 days after Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's announcement activating the Michigan National Guard for COVID-19 humanitarian support, U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Bryan Teff, assistant adjutant general – Air and commander of the Michigan Air National Guard, is reflecting on the challenges and triumphs of the Michigan National Guard's time at the front lines of the COVID-19 fight.
