Air Force update for COVID-19

WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- In an effort to minimize the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 and to prioritize the health and safety of Department of the Air Force personnel, the following modifications have been made:

May 6, 2020
Performing the Duties of Under Secretary of the Air Force Shon Manasco, along with Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen. Stephen "Seve" Wilson, and Space Force Vice Commander Lt. Gen. David Thompson, visited Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico, May 4, 2020, to observe ongoing efforts during COVID-19 and how operations have adapted to maintain critical mission readiness.

Airmen assigned to Air Force Reserve Command from various locations within the United States arrived at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, to assist with coronavirus disease 2019 operations from May 2-3. These technicians are responsible for transporting patients primarily out of the United States Central Command area of responsibility where they will receive treatment at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany. The personnel will form into groups referred to as Transportation Isolation teams.

Soldiers and Airmen from the Connecticut National Guard work with the state's Department of Public Health to distribute personal protective equipment to nursing homes, hospitals, and first responders on the front line of the battle against COVID-19 crisis at a distribution point in New Haven, Connecticut, May 5, 2020.


Airmen and Soldiers of the New Mexico National Guard Joint Task Force continue to supply food and water to New Mexico communities during the COVID-19 response mission.

Airmen from the 128th Air Refueling Wing, Wisconsin Air National Guard, are being activated to work at mobile testing and specimen collection sites in support of the battle against COVID-19 throughout Wisconsin.

Lt. Col. Bruce Simpson, the Headquarters Washington Air National Guard's Force Support director, started his journey in the fight against COVID-19 by supporting the Grand Princess cruise ship quarantine on Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, California in March. By early April, he was on a different COVID-19 mission: supporting the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner.

Members of the 150th Special Operations Wing fill in anywhere needed during COVID-19 pandemic to ensure that all New Mexicans have what they need. Airmen have worked to provide aid across the state, putting in thousands of collective hours to support our communities.

The New Mexico Wing of Civil Air Patrol, the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, transported COVID-19 test kits from a meat packing plant in southern New Mexico to the Scientific Laboratory Division of the state Department of Health in Albuquerque for processing.
