Taiwan records third COVID-19 death

Taipei, March 30 (CNA) Taiwan's death toll from the COVID-19 coronavirus rose to three Sunday with the passing of a patient in his 40s, the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) reported late that night.

The man, who worked in the local tourism industry, was not listed as in critical condition before his death, CECC spokesperson Chuang Jen-hsiang (莊人祥) told reporters Sunday night but did not give any further details of the health conditions that led to the patient's death.

According Chuang, the man, who worked in the tourism industry, was confirmed on March 19 to have contracted the coronavirus after he led a group tour to Austria and the Czech Republic March 5-14.

Three other people in the tour group have since tested positive for COVID-19, Chuang said.

The death of the tour group leader brings the number of COVID-19 fatalities in Taiwan to three, while the number of confirmed cases rose to 298 Sunday, when the CECC reported 15 new infections.

The CECC said 14 of the new cases were imported, while the other patient had no recent history of overseas travel.
