Iran's General Suleimani: US invasion, ISIL measures in region doomed to fail

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Commander of Iran's Quds Force General Qassem Suleimani said the US invasion of the region and the approaches of the terrorist group known as the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) fail to succeed.

'The US invasion of the region and terrorist measures of the ISIL are doomed to fail,' he said, as describing them as vain.

He also reiterated that the US and ISIL's approach would fail to influence and they would not succeed. 'We saw their measures in Syria and what did they result in?'

He also said measures taken against Islam, Iran and Shiia are empty, and 'Any empty phenomenon will fail to succeed.'

A high-ranking Iranian military commander has already said the US-led airstrikes against the ISIL targets in Syria are part of a "show" aimed at paving the way for foreign military presence in the Arab country.

"There is premonition of conspiracy to victimize the people of (Syria's Kurdish town of) Kobani in order to create a bridgehead for the military presence of the (so-called US-led) coalition in Syria," Iranian Armed Forces' Chief of Staff Major General Hassan Firouzabadi said.

According to reports, since a few weeks ago the United States and its allies have carried out at least 200 airstrikes against the ISIL militants operating inside Syria. Some civilians have so far been killed in the attacks.

The strikes were carried out without the approval of the United Nations. The Syrian government says the US had informed it of the strikes in advance.

This is while the US and its allies, including those in the Persian Gulf region, stand accused of helping the rise of ISIL in the region through the provision of arms and financial aid to the Takfiris wreaking havoc in Syria and Iraq.
