
UAE bans camels import over coronavirus threat
4 May 2014, 12:20 -- The Ministry for Environment and water resources of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) imposed a temporary ban on import of camels that can be coronavirus carriers, Emarat Al Youm newspaper reported Sunday.
According to the public health department of Abu Dhabi, 23 people have been cured from coronavirus in the UAE, while two have died starting this year.
The epicenter of the disease is the neighboring Saudi Arabia, where 110 people have already died from coronavirus. Egypt's Ministry of Health earlier Friday issued a warning for children, elderly people and those suffering from chronic heart diseases to refrain from visiting Saudi Arabia.
The warning came after the first case of coronavirus was registered in Egypt. The diseased was a man who recently came back from Saudi Arabia where he lived for four years.
Coronavirus was discovered in September 2012 in Saudi Arabia. The symptoms are similar to atypical pneumonia.A Arabian camels are believed to be disease carriers.
