Russian special services cannot confirm terrorist Umarov's death
18 March 2014, 19:51 -- Russian secret services do not yet have the information to confirm the death of the leader of Chechen terrorists leader Doku Umarov, a spokesman for the National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC) said, commenting on reports by some foreign media that Umarov had allegedly been killed in Russia.
'Information about the death of Doku Umarov periodically pops up in the foreign media, but the Russian secret services do not currently have any facts to substantiate it, they choose not to comment on it,' the representative of the NAC explained.
Earlier some foreign media reported that Doku Umarov has been killed, citing website Kavkaz Center. According to them, the source gave no details of how he was said to have been killed.
Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said this January that until the intelligence agencies provide any evidence concerning the terrorist's death, he must be considered alive. Earlier, the head of Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov announced the receipt of new evidence that proves Umarov is long dead. Some intercepted negotiations of the militants indicate that he was actually killed.
