Taipei, May 5 (CNA) China has reported a further case of H7N9 infection in Fujian Province, bringing the total number in China to 128, Taiwan's Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said Sunday.

The number of deaths from the avian flu virus infection also increased from 26 to 27 that same day, according to the Chinese Center For Disease Control And Prevention.

The new fatality was reported in Jiangxi Province, in southeast China, it said.

According to a Xinhua news agency report, the new case is a 69-year-old farmer who developed chest tightness and palpitations on April 29.

He underwent heart surgery the following day and later developed flu-like symptoms that tested positive for the virus, the report said, making him the fourth case reported in Fujian.

Nine people who had close contact with the patient had not shown symptoms, according to Xinhua.

Taiwan has ruled out nine of the 10 suspected H7N9 cases reported from hospitals since the previous day, the CECC said, adding that one case is still awaiting test results.

So far, only one case has been reported in Taiwan, that of a 53-year-old Taiwanese man who tested positive after returning from China.

It is the only H7N9 case reported outside China, but was contracted in China. The man has been receiving treatment at National Taiwan University Hospital.
