Two Dead In Explosions At Boston Marathon

April 15, 2013

Police in the U.S. city of Boston say at least two people have been killed and 23 others injured as a result of two explosions that occurred near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

The cause of the explosions, which came seconds apart on April 15, was not immediately clear.

The blasts left streets covered in debris and blood.

The explosions happened about three hours after the winners crossed the finish line, but as other runners were still completing the course.

A third explosion has been reported at the John F. Kennedy presidential library in Boston.

The Federal Aviation Administration said it has imposed a no-fly zone over the site of the explosions.

The White House said President Barack Obama has been notified about the explosions and has ordered his administration to provide whatever assistance is needed.

Authorities in New York City said they were boosting security there in response to the Boston incident.

Security is also reported to have been increased in the U.S. capital Washington.
