Bin Laden Shooter Gives Interview

By RFE/RL

February 12, 2013

The U.S. Navy SEAL who claims to have killed Osama bin Laden has given an interview in which he recounts shooting the Al-Qaeda leader in Pakistan in May, 2011.

The interview published February 11 by “Esquire” magazine did not reveal the name of the soldier, but said he served with the U.S. Navy for 16 years.

In the interview, the soldier talks about how the SEAL team moved through bin Laden’s compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, before he encountered the Al-Qaeda chief and fired three shots into his head.

The soldier says he is now worried that his wife and children could be targeted by Al-Qaeda supporters seeking revenge.

He also says he is now facing financial concerns as an unemployed U.S. civilian without a full pension or health insurance.
