Jordan Says Thwarted Al-Qaeda-Inspired Terrorist Attacks

RIA Novosti

07:02 22/10/2012 MOSCOW, October 22 (RIA Novosti) - Jordan’s security services have preempted a series of terrorist attacks against western diplomats, foreign nationals and shopping malls, The Guardian reported citing the country’s state news agency Petra.

Eleven men suspected of having been planned attacks for a few months have been arrested. They are believed to have started recruiting suicide bombers and identified targets in a wealthy district of the Jordanian capital, Amman.

According to Jordan’s government, the suspects were Jordanians inspired by al-Qaeda’s ideology.

The government said the suspects had brought arms from Syria to use them in the alleged plot, and planned to get more explosives and weapons from Syria.

In 2005, Amman was hit by three al-Qaeda ordered blasts that killed 60 people at three hotels.
