Gov't, Army played major role in Osama killing: Minister

Islamabad, May 3, IRNA -- Pakistani Defense Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar has said that the government of Pakistan and the armed forces played a huge part in the killing of Osama bin Laden.

In an interview with BBC Urdu news service he said a mobile chip was used to locate former al-Qaeda chief.

He gave this statement on the first anniversary of Bin Laden’s killing. Mukhtar claimed that SIM which led to Osama bin Laden was discovered by an intelligence official.

The defense minister said that Pakistan had an agreement with the US that whenever Pakistan retrieved any material in Arabic and English, it will be given to US and if the US found any material in Urdu, it would give it to Pakistan.

“I do not know how big a leader Osama bin Laden was,” said the defense minister. Time will tell how positive his contributions to the Muslim countries proved to be.”

He said that materials recovered from Osama bin Laden’s residence were with the army and investigations were underway.
