Four Dead, Scores Injured In Attack In Belgian City
December 13, 2011
Four people were reportedly killed today in a grenade and gunfire attack on a crowd at a bus stop in the center of the Belgian city of Liege.
Reports say more than 60 people were injured.
Public prosecutor Daniel Reynders said a lone gunman was responsible for the attack. He said the gunman was among the dead.
Belgian news agency Belga named the attacker as 32-year-old Nordine Amrani.
His motives were immediately unclear, but Reynders said it was not a terrorist incident.
Amrani in 2008 had been convicted for the illegal possession of firearms as part of a criminal gang.
Earlier reports had said that as many as three gunmen had been involved in the attack.
The attack occurred near the city's court house and close to a busy Christmas market.
Belgium's Home Affairs Minister Joelle Milquet broke off European Union talks and was headed for Liege after the attack.
