Panamanian Police Arrest 80 People in Major Drug Bust
September 07, 2011
Panama's drug prosecutor says a series of raids has disrupted a major trafficking ring that moved cocaine from Colombia to Panama and further north to the United States.
Javier Caraballo said 80 Panamanians and Colombians were arrested in Monday's raids. Authorities believe the traffickers used gangs associated with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Columbia [FARC].
Caraballo estimated the drug traffickers smuggled at least 18 tons of cocaine during the last two years.
