Scotland Yard Says Arrested LulzSec Spokesman
July 27, 2011
Scotland Yard says it has arrested the suspected spokesman of the Lulz Security hacking group.
In a statement, the police force said officers from its specialist cybercrime unit arrested the 19-year-old at an address in Scotland's Shetland Islands on July 27.
They say he is the name behind the hacker known as "Topiary," who has given several interviews in recent weeks.
LulzSec, an offshoot of the amorphous hacking collective known as Anonymous, has claimed responsibility for a series of hacking attacks on both sides of the Atlantic.
In a separate development, Anonymous and Lulz Security called today in a joint statement for a boycott of PayPal to punish the electronic-payments firm for its refusal to accept donations for whistle-blower site WikiLeaks.
PayPal, Visa, and MasterCard stopped accepting donations for WikiLeaks in December after the website began releasing sensitive State Department cables.
