Death toll in Domodedovo terrorist attack rises to 36
09:59 02/02/2011 MOSCOW, February 2 (RIA Novosti) - The number of victims of last week's terrorist attack on Moscow's Domodedovo Airport has risen to 36, a spokesman for Russia's Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
The death toll, which previously stood at 35, increased with the death one of the two people who were in a critical condition, the spokesman said.
A powerful blast ripped through an international arrivals hall of Russia's largest airport on January 24. More than 100 people were seriously injured in the explosion, which was carried out by a suicide bomber, a 20-year-old resident of the country's volatile North Caucasus region.
Investigators say the attack, which claimed the lives of at least 8 foreigners, was mainly directed against foreign nationals.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev highlighted poor security at the airport and pledged to punish those responsible. He has already fired several interior ministry officials, including federal transportation security chief, Andrei Alekseyev.
