Bomb Targets US Embassy Vehicle in Yemen
VOA News
16 December 2010
Officials in Yemen say a group of U.S. embassy personnel came under attack overnight when a bomb exploded in the back of their vehicle.
Reports on Thursday say no one was injured in the attack in the capital, Sana'a. They say the attacker threw a bomb into the back of the Americans' pickup truck as it was sitting outside a restaurant frequented by foreign nationals.
The reports say police have arrested a 28-year-old Jordanian suspect.
It is unclear whether the attack is linked to al-Qaida militants in the country.
Al-Qaida last carried out an attack on a foreign embassy in October, when a rocket attack on a British embassy vehicle in Sanaa wounded several people.
The rocket exploded near a car carrying Britain's number two diplomat in Yemen, wounding three bystanders and one staffer who was riding inside.
Last April, a suicide bomber in Sanaa blew himself up near a convoy carrying the British ambassador to Yemen, Timothy Torlot. The ambassador was unharmed, but three bystanders were wounded.
Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula claimed responsibility for that attack.
