German gov't warns of imminent terrorist attack by end of November
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Berlin, Nov 17, IRNA -- German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere here on Wednesday warned of an imminent terrorist attack by the end of this month.
De Maziere told the press that there were concrete indications about plans for a terrorist assault in Germany.
The minister did not specify any details of the terror plan.
'There is reason for concern but no reason for hysteria,' he added, alluding to past media hype on alleged terror plots in Germany.
Meanwhile, interior ministry spokesman said the situation was in fact 'serious' as Germany has stepped up security measures at airports, railway stations and borders.
The Berlin-based daily Der Tagespiegel said in a report to hit the newsstands on Thursday that US intelligence agents informed their German counterparts last week that the al-Qaeda terror network had dispatched two to four terrorists to Germany and Britain.
The suspected assailants were scheduled to arrive in Germany on November 22, according to US information.
The paper pointed to Pakistan-based Mohammed Ilyas Kashmiri as the mastermind of the planned attacks.
Kashmiri reportedly recruited the unidentified men for the terror plot in the Afghan-Pakistani border region.
Secret service sources said the men were to travel via Pakistan, India and the United Arab Emirates, Der Tagesspiegel said.
