Iran denounces US for accusing Iran of helping terrorism
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, August 9, IRNA -- Iran on Monday strongly condemned the United States for accusing Iran of helping terrorism in the US annual report on terrorism.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that the US itself has been the major supporter of terrorism in the past three decades.
He said that the United States has resorted to put blame on others to hide its support for terrorism in the past three decades.
Mehmanparast said that it is necessary to stop bringing unfounded and biased allegations against other countries, and that continuation of the trend would leave undesirable impacts on the confidence of the international community as the essential pillar for restoration of stability and security of the globe.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is obliged to fully cooperate with the global community in campaign against terrorism but the Western states and the US have adopted double-standard policy in dealing with terrorism, said the Iranian foreign ministry spokesman.
“To give example of such the double-standard, we can refer to full-scale activities of the terrorist Mujahedin Khalq Organization in the western states and their connections with political figures and their secret services in those countries,” he said.
They never hesitate to back terrorist groups such as Rigi or PEJAK who have carried out various terrorist operations against the Iranian nation, he said.
Continued presence of US forces with some western countries in Afghanistan has led to multi-fold increase in poppy cultivation in the war-shattered country which is source of fund for financial support of terrorism and extremism, he said.
Mehmanparast said that the crimes and atrocities of the Zionists in Palestine and Lebanon are good indication of role of US government in promotion of terrorism in the region.
The international community shoulders the heavy burden of the losses due to US unilateralism in international campaign against terrorism as the country believes in use of pressure and force to bring new changes, Mehmanparast said.
