IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

New Delhi, April 21, IRNA -- India has urged Pakistan to take more effective step to curb terrorism emanating from its country.

Replying the debate on demand for grants for his ministry in the Lok Sabha (Lower House of Indian Parliament), External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna asserted that Pakistan has to do much more to address India’s core concerns of terrorism.

Mr Krishna said that India can not go for further talks unless the issue of terrorism is addressed by Pakistan.

Refuting the opposition charges of international pressure on India for holding dialogue with Pakistan, Krishna said that the security and development is in the core of the foreign policy.

Calling the recent Secretary level talks a major initiative, Krishna said that India’s concerns on terrorism have been conveyed to Pakistan during the talks as well on many other platforms.

Referring to Afghanistan, he said India will continue its reconstruction and development programme for stability of that country and people. Mr. Krishna said instability and extremism in the region is a cause of great concern for security and development of India.

Calling relations with China a complex issue, he said all differences will be resolved through dialogue. He said that India’s concerns on staple visas and other issues have been conveyed to China time to time. The Minister said that India is playing a constructive role in its Asian neighborhood and has positive relations with its neighbors like Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Describing Indo US Civil Nuclear deal as a mile stone in the growing strategic relations between the two countries, Mr. Krishna said that these relations are widening and expanding.

The areas of cooperation include trade and commerce, education and Science and Technology.

He also said that India has good relations with Russia which is an old friend.

Earlier the participating in the debate opposition members criticized government for the foreign policy and called for taking corrective majors in tune with India's growing stature at the global stage. The house later passed demands for grants for the Ministry through voice vote.
