India calls for comprehensive UN convention on int'l terrorism

New Delhi, April 16, IRNA -- India has called for early finalisation of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism in the United Nations.
“Terrorism continues to pose serious threat to our developmental goals and the scrounge needs to be fought through collective international efforts”, said Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in his opening remarks at the plenary session of the IBSA Summit in Brasilia.
Singh said that the global governance have not kept pace with the changing times.
He said that there is an urgent need to reform the United Nations including the Security Council by making it more representative and democratic.
Turning to economy, the Prime Minister cautioned that the past mistakes should not be repeated and the recovery is still fragile and uneven.
He suggested that the global recovery must be anchored in the real economy in order to make it sustainable.
Meanwhile, Brazil, Russia, India, China (BRIC), Summit is also taking place today instead of tomorrow in view of earthquake in China, All India Radio reported.
Chinese President is rushing back home today.
Manmohan Singh has also advanced his return to India by six hours.
