Kyrgyzstan Reports More Swine Flu Infections But No Deaths

November 11, 2009

BISHKEK -- The number of swine flu patients in Kyrgyzstan has reached 27, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reports.

Kyrgyz Health Ministry official Tolon Isakov told journalists on November 10 that almost all the patients with swine flu, also known as H1N1, are labor migrants who recently returned from their seasonal work in Russia and other countries.

Only eight of the swine flu patients have been hospitalized; the others are being treated at home.

No one has yet been reported killed by the virus.

Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan have all reported swine flu cases, but fellow Central Asian countries Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan claim there have been no swine flu cases found in their countries.
