Kazakhstan to start testing domestic swine flu vaccine
10:53 04/11/2009 ASTANA, November 4 (RIA Novosti) - Kazakhstan will start testing a domestically produced A/H1N1 vaccine soon, the country's chief sanitary official Kenes Ospanov said on Wednesday.
"We will begin clinical tests of a new vaccine against the pandemic flu," the official told a news conference in the Kazakh capital Astana.
He added that his country had no plans to buy the vaccine abroad, but some $18.6 million could be allocated for the purpose if necessary.
The ex-Soviet state had earlier developed its own bird flu vaccine.
A total of 17 swine flu cases have been reported in the republic in summer months. No new cases have since been registered.
