Over 20 wounded in south Thailand market explosion
10:48 19/10/2009 MOSCOW, October 19 (RIA Novosti) - More than 20 people were wounded on Monday in an explosion in a market in the south of Thailand, regional media reported Monday.
The bomb was hidden in a motorcycle at the market in Yala, a city in a restive predominantly Muslim region on the border with Malaysia.
Witnesses said that two men, around 30-35 years of age and dressed in black t-shirts and caps, parked the motorcycle near the market before the explosion.
According to the Bangkok Post, 24 were wounded in an explosion, while other media reports put the number of injured as high as 28, including three police officers.
The blast occurred at 7:30 a.m. local time (23:30 GMT on Sunday).
Police are investigating the crime. According to preliminary information, the bomb was triggered by a mobile phone. Local police blocked all phone signals fearing more explosions.
