A total number of laboratory confirmed human cases of swine flu caused by the A/H1N1 virus stands at about 199,034 worldwide, including 1,444 lethal cases.

Russian sanitary officials are continuing with checks on the condition of airline passengers who arrive from countries with confirmed cases of swine flu. Rospotrebnadzor reported it has examined 124 flights, about 14,000 passengers and 880 crew members who arrived in Russia from North, South and Central America, Spain, Japan, the Dominican Republic, China, Thailand, Cyprus, Great Britain and Turkey in 17 Russian airports during the last twenty-four hours. Transit flights are also being checked for safety.

The watchdog said 11 people diagnosed with ARVI symptoms were registered during the sanitary examination in international airports of Moscow, St. Petersburg and Volgograd during the last twenty-four hours. The passengers arrived from Great Britain and Turkey and have been hospitalized in order to carry out laboratory examinations.

Since the beginning of monitoring Rospotrebnadzor has examined over 9,9 flights, about 826,000 passengers and 66,500 crew members, Russian sanitary officials said.

The Chief State Health Inspector Gennady Onishchenko earlier said the number of confirmed swine flu cases in Russia has reached 55. One more case was officially confirmed in the city of Lipetsk, located in the country's Central Federal District, local sanitary officials told RIA Novosti on Friday. The infected was a 16-year-old teenager who came back home from Malta with symptoms of the disease.
