IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

London, May 5, IRNA -- The Home Office announced Tuesday it was publishing for the first time a list of individuals who were banned from entering the UK for 'stirring-up hatred'.

The list covers people excluded from the United Kingdom for fostering extremism and includes Muslims, white supremacists, a Jewish extremist and even a US radio host among 16 of 22 banned in the five months to March this year.

"Coming to the UK is a privilege and I refuse to extend that privilege to individuals who abuse our standards and values to undermine our way of life," said Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.

"I will not hesitate to name and shame those who foster extremist views as I want them to know that they are not welcome here," Smith said, adding that she was determined to 'stop those who want to spread extremism, hatred and violent messages in our communities from coming to our country'.

Of those banned between October and March are Hamas MP Yunis Al-Astal, Jewish extremist Mike Guzovsky, two leaders of a Russian skinhead gang, ex-Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard Stephen 'Don' Black and neo-Nazi Erich Gliebe.

The home secretary also announced that the government is now able to ban European nationals and their family members if they constitute a threat to public policy or public security.

The government is able under its unacceptable behavior policy to exclude any non-British citizen, whether in the UK or abroad, on the basis of what they say and for writing, producing, publishing or distributing material or running a website.

Unacceptable behavior is considered to be view that foment, justify or glorify terrorist violence in furtherance of particular beliefs or might lead to inter-community violence, that seek to provoke others to terrorist acts or foment other serious criminal activity or seek to provoke others to serious criminal acts.

Since August 2005, a total of 101 individuals have been excluded from the UK for having engaged in unacceptable behavior, the vast majority is for those considered to be for fomenting, justifying or glorifying terrorist violence in furtherance of particular beliefs.
