Forces capable to tackle terror threat in view of general election

New Delhi, March 19, IRNA – Indian forces are quite capable to tackle the terror threat in view of upcoming general elections.
“Army is preparing for all contingencies to take on the militants. He said, infiltration is low now as the passes are closed, but added that a three-tier counter infiltration strategy is being put in place to fight the menace of terrorism” said Chief of the Army Staff General Deepak Kapoor (photo), while talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi.
He said, though resurgence of Taliban is a matter of concern, but right now it is confined to the Pak-Afghan border.
Replying to a question, General Kapoor said, all efforts are being made for the peaceful conduct of Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir and expressed hope that environment will be stable and peaceful like during the assembly elections last year with huge turnout of voters.
Meanwhile, Home Minister, P. Chidambaram had recently acknowledged the threat of terrorists targeting politicians on the campaign trial.
The Central government on Wednesday sent out a fresh advisory to all state governments to increase security at political rallies and meetings, especially those were leaders were going to be present.
