Palestinian Bulldozer Driver Injures 2 in Jerusalem

By VOA News
05 March 2009

Israeli authorities say a Palestinian driver rammed a bulldozer into an empty bus and a police car, wounding two officers before being shot dead.

A taxi driver at the scene shot the bulldozer driver Thursday on a busy Jerusalem road.

Police are calling the incident an act of terrorism. It appears to be the latest in a string of militant attacks using construction vehicles against Israeli targets.

Earlier Thursday, Gaza medical workers said an Israeli airstrike near the border between Gaza and Israel killed two Palestinian militants close to the Mughazi refugee camp in central Gaza.

The Israeli military said the strike targeted a group of militants who had fired an anti-tank missile at troops on the Israeli side of the border.

Israel says military aircraft struck three smuggling tunnels along the border between Gaza and Egypt Wednesday in response to rocket attacks on Israel the day before. No injuries were reported.

Israel launched a three-week offensive against the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza last December in response to continuing rocket attacks. Both Hamas and Israel declared unilateral cease-fires in January, but the violence continues almost daily.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP, AP and Reuters.
