India terms Pak admission, actions a positive development

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

New Delhi, Feb 13, IRNA -- India has termed Pakistan's admission of role of operatives based on its soil in Mumbai terror attacks as a positive development and expressed willingness to share whatever it can after examining the issues raised by Islamabad.

The Ministry of External Affairs said India will follow the process of action initiated by Pakistan through the end as it is keen to ensure that perpetrators of the crime are brought to justice.

"In their official response, Pakistan authorities have admitted that elements in Pakistan were involved in the terrorist attacks on Mumbai," the MEA said in a statement in New Delhi.

"They (Pakistan) are still in the process of investigating the attacks and have taken certain actions including the arrest of some of those who were involved and filing a First Information Report," it said.

It remains India’s goal to bring the perpetrators of the terrorist attacks on Mumbai to book, and to follow this process through to the end, the statement added.

India would also expect that the Government of Pakistan take credible steps to dismantle the infrastructure of terrorism in Pakistan.

"This is a positive development," the statement said.

The statement was issued soon after Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad Satyabrata Pal was "informed officially" by Pakistan Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir of Pakistan's response to the dossier of evidence that India had given to Pakistan on 5th January linking the Mumbai attacks to perpetrators in Pakistan.

Meanwhile Home Minister P Chidambaram said that External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will make a statement in Parliament on Friday on Pakistan's response to India's dossier on Mumbai terror attack.

Earlier on Thursday, Pakistan finally admitted that "some part of the conspiracy" behind the Mumbai terror attacks was planned in Pakistan.
