Rubai: Ashraf Camp soon to be closed

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, Jan 23, IRNA – Iraqi National Security Advisor Muvafaq al-Rubai said here Friday that Ashraf Camp, the base of the terrorist Mujahideen Khalq Organization (MKO) in Iraq, will be closed for ever.

“The decision is irreversible; Iraqi government has adopted an obvious policy on the outfit; to announce the case closed, it needs Iran’s cooperation. The MKO, that is now in the Ashraf Camp, is considered by Iraqi government as a terrorist and criminal group for making countless treasons in case of the Iraqi people; all countries too admit that it is a terrorist group,” al-Rubai told Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili here on Friday.

He said, “Iraq government knows pretty well to what extent the terrorist MKO has been involved in murder of Iranian officials and people; also, we do know that the group had in Iraq made conspiracies and was hostile to Iraqis; so, we decided to close Ashraf camp in Iraq and whose dwellers will have no other option but returning to Iran or going to a third country.”

He said, “Iraqi government has decided to uproot anything that might hamper the Iran-Iraq ties. We believe in having firm ties with Iran and consider any factor threatening Iran’s security from inside Iraq as a factor threatening our own security.”
