Pakistani Taliban releases video of beheaded 'spies' on al-Qaeda leader

Pakistani Taliban have issued a video of five beheaded persons, including soldiers, who were accused of spying on a key al-Qaeda leader Abu Laith al-Libi who was killed in a U.S missile strike in the tribal region in January this year.

Al-Libi was a senior leader of the al-Qaeda movement in Afghanistan who appeared in several al-Qaeda videos. He was believed to have been active in the tribal regions of Waziristan. He also served as an al Qaeda spokesman and an "expert in guerilla warfare." The slain people in 'confessional statements' said that they had 'provided secret information and helped in attacks on behest of Pakistani officials, according to the video sent to several journalists in Peshawar.

However spokesman for Pakistan army Major General Athar Abbas said the government of Pakistan is not providing any intelligence to the Americans to identify targets, the BBC Urdu reported on the website.

BBC Urdu reported that it has received the video tape.

Al-Libi and 11 colleagues were killed in the U.S missile attack in Mir Ali area of North Waziristan tribal on January 29 this year.

Five people have been shown in the 45-minute video tape, who mention their names one-by-one and make confession that how they traced hideouts of the 'Arab leaders' and helped as 'spy' in the U.S missile strike.

Titled as 'Qisas and Ibrat" (retaliation and admonition), the video also has a Pashtoo song which says, "You people have committed cruel acts to kill many beloved Arabs, who had sheltered in our country". The house destroyed in the missile strike was shown in the background.

Talking about the U.S missile strike which killed Al-Libi on January 29th this year a man that all colleagues threw a 'chip' or 'sim' inside a house at 12 mid night which was identified and targeted by the U.S drones.

The local authorities say they had found beheaded bodies of the five slain people in different parts of Noth Waziristan in different times.

Spokesman of Pakistan army Major General Athar Abbas said that he will not comment on the confession of the soldiers in the Taliban video tape as he has not watched it.

When asked about the allegations that they worked on the advice of the Pakistan intelligence agencies, the spokesman said the government has not provided any information to the Americans for missile strikes in the tribal regions. He said Pakistan believes that such attacks are counter-productive.

Ababs said that Pakistan has repeatedly asked the U.S to provide information to it about the suspected militants and own forces will take effective action.

Officials believe that the U.S has carried out 32 missile attacks in the tribal regions since August, which the U.S claims aimed at eliminating al-Qaeda and Taliban militants.

In a fresh strike, two persons were killed and three injured when U.S missile hit a house near Miran Shah, the center of North Wazirisan on Monday night.

Scores of people have been killed in the region on charges of spying on the militants.
