The multi-layer security cordon put at the airports in New Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore in view of the threat of a possible air-borne strike.

The National Security Guards (NSG) has been kept on stand-by and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), guarding the airports, put in top gear, Indian official media reported quoting senior security official.

Besides, deployment of sky marshals on select routes has been undertaken mainly those from (and to) Kashmir, North-East, Nepal and Dubai, he said.

"Profiling of passengers has also been undertaken and the dossier of suspected people was being scrutinized along with their passport details."

This was being done as an additional preventive measure, even as security personnel on LMG-mounted vehicles stationed at vantage points at and around the airport, he said.

"While all vehicles leading to the airport were being scanned and searched, the 'ladder point' search has actually begun as the last-stop check measures," he said.

Anti-sabotage teams have also been formed and all airlines informed about any likely hijacking plans, he said, adding that passengers are being requested to reach at least three hours before flight timings for security check.

"This is in addition to visitors not being allowed into the airport lounge," the official said.

The official also informed that the intelligence agencies were tracking those behind the threat e-mail which talked about the air-borne attack.
