Pakistan-Conference
Political and religious parties have extended their unconditional and fullest support to the Government and the armed forces in tackling the situation arising out of Mumbai incident, a participant of the meeting said Tuesday.
The conference was convened by Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to create consensus in a situation when the Mumbai attacks have created tension between Pakistan and India.
"The National Security Conference strongly condemned attacks but made it clear that Pakistan has nothing to do with them and baseless allegations against Pakistan should be avoided," leader of Awami Muslim League Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said after attending the Conference.
He said all the participants were unanimous on basic points and expressed the resolve that they are fully united in defending the integrity and solidarity of the country.
He said the Foreign Minister informed the Conference that India wrote two letters to Pakistan - one on 29th of last month and another on Ist of this month.
The Foreign Office has responded to the first letter telling India that Pakistan was in no way involved in Mumbai attacks and it wants good neighbourly relations with that country.
The Foreign Office would be responding to the second letter today.
Replying to questions Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said the Conference expressed sympathy with India but sent a clear message that there should be no blame game. "It asked India to carry out investigations and Pakistan would extend cooperation in this regard".
Sheikh Rashid Ahmad said it is pet record of India to level baseless charges against Pakistan".
"It blamed Pakistan for Samjota Express tragedy but later on it turned out to be handiwork of Indian nationals including a serving army officer. Similarly, India blamed Pakistan for bombing of its embassy in Kabul but failed to provide any proof," he said.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani informed the leaders of almost all political parties of the country about the efforts being made by the government to defuse the tension created by allegations levelled by India against Pakistan in the aftermath of the Mumbai terror attacks.
Over 30 leaders of political parties, both inside and outside parliament attended the meeting.
The meeting also issued a joint statement condemning the Mumbai attacks and asked India to stop blaming Pakistan for the attacks.
