US asks Pak to show transparency in tackling terrorism

Visiting US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice Wednesday asked Pakistan to show transparency and urgency in implementing its commitment to tackle terrorism in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks.

Talking to reporters in New Delhi this afternoon, Rice said that this is the message of United States to Islamabad.

Rice said that Pakistan have been told by US to bring to justice those involved in terror attacks.

She elaborated that Islamabad has also been conveyed to see that such attacks don't take place in future.

When asked whether US sees Al-Qaeda hand in Mumbai terror attacks, secretary of state said she will not jump into conclusions.

However she made it clear that it is the kind of attack Al Qaeda perpetrates not just to terrorize people but to send clear and strong signals to government and economy.

Rice said it is also important to know about the funding of such terror attacks.

The US secretary of state said it is time for India and US to move ahead in formulating a strategy in tackling terror and it is special time for Pakistan to do so.

She made it clear that she has come to India to express solidarity with the government and the people of Mumbai.

Rice, is now having a meeting with her counterpart Pranab Mukherjee at Hyderabad House.

Earlier she met the Home Minister P Chidambaram and discussed the situation arising out of the terror attacks in Mumbai.

Later she will also call on the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh.
