Mexican police have arrested a drug trafficker during a shootout with members of a powerful drug cartel.
Jesus Zambada was among 16 members of the Sinaloa cartel detained in Mexico City. Zambada's brother, Ismael, is a top leader of the cartel.
Attorney General Eduardo Medina says Jesus Zambada was allegedly in control of the cartel's operations in central Mexico. Zambada has a history of moving tons of drugs through Mexico City airport.
Police are investigating Zambada's connection to other crimes in Mexico.
The government of Mexican President Felipe Calderon has deployed troops in various parts of the country to crack down on well-armed drug gangs and cartels.
