Two militants blow themselves up as armed men freed school children in Pakistan

Two militants, who had held hostage around 300 school children in northwest Pakistan on Thursday, were killed as armed locals freed the children after firing exchange, witnesses said.
A group of three militants had taken control of a school in Dir district of North West Frontier Province and held 300 children hostage.
The armed militants opened fire on the locals, who rushed to the school to end their control, the locals said.
Two militants blew themselves up to avoid arrest as the locals tried to capture them alive, witnesses said.
Another militant escaped from the scene and the armed locals started search to apprehend him.
All school children were freed unhurt, the school management said.
Taliban had been active in Dir district, located near the tribal region of Bajaur and the restive Swat valley.
People in Dir district had already formed committees to expel Taliban from entering the area.
Taliban have burnt over 100 girls schools in Swat valley over the past few months, according to officials.
