EADS Defence & Security (DS) has been commissioned by Brazil’s Departamento de Polícia Federal to expand the digital radio network of the Brazilian Federal Police on the basis of the Tetrapol standard.

The first states to be integrated into the radio network will be Paraná Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina in the south of Brazil and Bahia, Ceará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe in the north. Implementation will be finished by the end of 2008. At present, the existing system covers the capital city of Brasilia and the state of Rio de Janeiro. The infrastructure in the state of Sao Paulo is currently rolled-out.

The Federal Police in both the north and south of Brazil will get at their disposal a failsafe, secure digital telecommunications system. This package is a part of PROAMATEC, the national programme to modernise the Brazilian Federal Police. The aim of this project is to enhance the efficiency and capabilities of crime-fighting forces with the aid of ultra-modern technology.
