Al-Qaeda sympathizers are allegedly planning terrorist attacks in Germany following the recent arrest of a number suspected Islamist terrorists, news reports said Saturday.

Lebanese security officials have warned German authorities of possible revenge acts by al-Qaeda sympathizers which may include terror attacks on the German Justice Ministry, military facilities and other government buildings, according to the weekly Der Spiegel news magazine.

An unknown caller had phoned the German embassy in Beirut in early January warning of imminent terror attacks in Germany in the wake of the recent capture of several suspected Islamist terrorists.

A truck, carrying one ton of explosives is reportedly on its way to the north German port city of Rostock via Russia and Finland.

The German Federal Crime Office (BKA) has advised the affected government installations to step up security precautions.

In the past, several similar security alerts turned out to be false.
