L-3 Communications Receives Contract Award for Talon(TM) by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security

Airports to Test Use of Portable Secure Communication to Classified Networks

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 30, 2007--L-3 Communications (NYSE: LLL) announced today that its Communication Systems-East (L-3 CS-East) division, a leading supplier of secure government communication products and systems, has received a sole source contract award from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for 250 of its Talon(TM) (KOV-26) in-line network encryptors. TSA will deploy these units for testing at undisclosed airports in the United States.

Recently certified by the National Security Agency (NSA) for Type 1 communications, Talon is L-3 CS-East's latest innovation for securing internet protocol (IP) data transmissions. Talon, a PCMCIA form factor encryptor, which supports broadband data rates and weighs just 3 ounces, will secure a user's data up to Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) using High Assurance IP Encryption Interoperability Specification (HAIPE(TM) IS) compatible protocol.

"Talon was designed specifically for users who are in remote locations to securely access classified networks over the Internet using our PCMCIA Talon card plugged into a commercial laptop or desktop," said Greg Roberts, President and Chief Operating Officer of L-3 CS-East. "We look forward to the success of this field test by our TSA customer."
