UK-Bombing Trial
The trial of six men charged in connection with last year's alleged copycat plot to bomb London's transport system was delayed Wednesday.
Muktar Said Ibrahim, Ramzi Mohammed, Yassin Omar and Hussein Omar are accused of conspiracy to murder, possessing explosives and attempting to murder passengers. Manfo Kwaku Asiedu and Adel Yahya are charged with conspiring.
But their trial was postponed following the charging of an 18 year old woman for helping Omar and withholding information on Tuesday. A new date has not been set but reportedly could start next week.
A further 11 people, including relatives of the suspects, are also accused of failing to disclose information and assisting others evade arrest, but their trials are not due to start until next year.
The case surrounds an alleged attempt to carry out a series of copycat attacks on London's transport system two weeks after last July 7 series of bombings that killed 56 people for which no one has yet been charged.
It was claimed at the time the devices four were carrying failed to detonate. Five of the accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges, while Yahya made no plea during a hearing in April.
Journalists are being reminded to be mindful of Britain's Contempt of Court Act in reporting the trial so not to be prejudicial in influencing the outcome.
