Danish Police Arrest Nine Terrorism Suspects
05 September 2006
Authorities in Denmark say police have arrested nine people suspected of planning a terrorist attack in the Nordic country.
Authorities say security police detained the suspects early Tuesday in Vollsmose, a mostly immigrant neighborhood in the city of Odense. The suspects were arrested under new anti-terrorism laws introduced after the 2001 terror attacks on the United States.
Justice Minister Lene Espersen said police also during the raid seized materials used to make explosives. She declined to disclose further details but she said the group had been plotting to stage an attack in Denmark.
Last month, authorities charged four suspects detained last with trying to obtain explosives to carry out a terrorist attack.
Also in early August, a Moroccan-born Dane was charged with inciting Muslims to carry out terrorist acts.
